A Winter Storm Warning continues for Monroe and Wayne counties including the City of Rochester on Tuesday. Elsewhere a Lake Snow Warning remains in effect for Wyoming County and a Winter Weather Advisory remains posted for the remainder of our viewing area.
Following a heavy coating of snow last night and early this morning, we brace for the next wave of snowfall, this time coming off of Lake Ontario. A heavy band of lake effect snow is expected to move inland from Lake Ontario overnight bringing the potential of snowfall rates up to 2 inches/hour. In addition to the heavy snow, the wind will pick up with the arrival of an arctic air mass blowing and drifting the snow in addition to producing bitter cold wind chills falling below zero by early on Wednesday.
Temps will struggle to escape the teens on Wednesday and Thursday as a blustery northwest wind continues bringing additional lake snow showers to the area through the day on Wednesday before tapering off Thursday. In addition, another system could bring some light snow to our southern counties overnight Wednesday into early Thursday.
We could catch a break late Thursday and early on Friday, but another clipper system could impact our area as early as Friday evening/Friday night bringing the potential for more snowfall and then lake effect snow showers over the weekend. It could transition to a wintry mix by early next week before colder air returns again with more snow chances next week.
