A statewide crackdown begins Thursday in an effort to prevent thousands of deaths per year.
Operation Hang Up, which lasts through Monday, April 16, involves increased patrols and checkpoints targeting drivers using cell phones and other electronic devices.
Troopers will use both marked and unmarked vehicles during the crackdown.
During the April 2017 Operation Hang Up campaign, State Police issued more than 16,000 tickets, including 2,116 tickets for distracted driving.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nationwide in 2016, nearly 3,500 people were killed in crashes caused by distracted driving.
