Monroe County is stepping up to help gun owners staring down the barrel of New York state's deadline.
Residents of New York with a pistol permit should be looking to re-certify their permits by the end of the month as cited under the "SAFE" Act.
The Monroe County Clerks office is normally operating from 9 to 5 though is holding later hours for those needing assistance.
In an effort to accommodate citizens in need of this service the Monroe County Clerks office will stay open from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on weeknights to handle pistol permit transactions and passports.
Monroe County Clerk Adam Bello explained, "We estimate that more than 60,000 pistol permits in Monroe County are affected by this New York state requirement."
It is estimated that millions of pistol permit holders still have not re-certified their permits across the state.
