Postal employee arrested and charged with stealing mail

James Ludwig, a postal employee at the Victor Post Office has been arrested and charged with criminal complaint with theft of mail matter by a postal employee.

The U.S. Attorney Office of the Western District of New York reports that the Fairport resident was discovered during an investigation of missing mail which contained either cash or gift cards.

Agents placed during the investigation outgoing mail along Ludwig's route containing two Wegman's gift-cards, it was then determined the gift-cards were used by the 45-year old.

Surveillance of Ludwig showed him deviating from his assigned postal route as well as video within his vehicle which revealed him picking envelopes and removing the items from the packages.

Footage also showed Ludwig preparing and ingesting nasally a white powdery substance.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a 250,000 dollar fine.
