A local school leader is being recognized for his great work.

The School Administrators Association of New York State has named Brighton High School Principal Dr. Tom Hall as its 2017 New York High School Principal of the Year.

“Brighton High School has been my home for over 21 years,” Dr. Hall said in a release. “I can honestly say that I love my job and love the people I get to work with each and every day. I am both humbled and honored to receive this recognition. This would have never happened though without the support of our incredible team of positive, caring, and energetic students, parents, faculty, staff, Board of Education members, and administrators. It is an honor to serve this community.”

Dr. Hall started as a biology teacher at the school in 1996. In 2001, he became an assistant principal at Newark but returned to Brighton as an assistant principal in 2002. He later acted as principal at French Road Elementary School before becoming Brighton High School principal in 2012.

“Never can I recall feeling as though an honor was more deservedly or accurately being awarded,” said Brighton Superintendent Dr. Kevin McGowan. "Dr. Hall has been nothing less than a consummate professional, an outstanding leader, a thoughtful colleague, and a passionate advocate for the children and staff that he works with."
