"It is important that we get a say in who's working here."
You don't normally hear that from a student talking about one of the administrators at a high school, but that's exactly the situation this week's Scholar Athlete, Jasmine Thomas, found her self in last summer.
She was part of an advisory committee to help find the new athletic director at Gates-Chili. What's the new AD like?
"I see his leadership role: he's really active, he's always at all the games, he has a Twitter going, he's really supportive," says Jasmine.
But Jasmine's leadership goes far beyond advisory committees. She's also a captain on the Spartans basketball team and is the class president.
"I see myself as a very respectable hard-working leader," she says. "I'm always there to help; I care for people."
That caring mentality is something that Jasmine hopes will propel her at the next level. She's interested in studying pre-med in college.
"I like the responsibility aspect of it," Jasmine says. "You're always caring. You're always there especially because I want to go to pediatrics because I love children."
If her past is any indication, she's going to lead the way and be great at that too. Congratulations to Jasmine Thomas, the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week, presented by Monroe Community College and Five Star Bank.
