A statement released late Wednesday night put another strange twist in a shooting at the Pinnacle North Apartments in Canandaigua.
Earlier, police said they were called to the apartment building just after 4:15 p.m. After arriving, police said an officer exchanged gunfire with a person in an apartment. We're told that person was hurt during the incident.
Police said the officer involved, however, was not injured in the shooting. But that's all the information police were willing to release to the media. The police chief refused to further elaborate on the incident, saying the Ontario County Sheriff's Office and state police were now handling the investigation..
Then, hours later, News10NBC received a statement from the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision saying an off-duty parole officer died after the incident in Canandaigua.
The statement reads: "The Department is aware of a tragic incident involving an off-duty parole officer, who is now deceased. Although we are unable to comment due to the ongoing investigation, we grieve for the loss of one of our own. Any questions should be directed to the New York State Police."
The statement only created more questions about what happened at the apartment building Wednesday afternoon. News10NBC is hoping to learn more information about the incident Thursday morning.
