A family is reeling from the devastating loss of a 23-year-old cousin, shot just days after celebrating the life of a relative killed in gunfire.
The family shared a picture with News10NBC of 23-year-old Amos Harring, who is known by friends as Moe Smith. They said he died after being shot on Skuse Street.
His death comes just two days after the family gathered to remember his cousin, Devin Singleton. Devin was killed in April 2015 after being shot less than two miles from where Moe was killed on Saturday.
Devin’s birthday was June 8, so the family gathered together in his memory on June 7 to hold a celebration of his life. He was only 20 years old.
Now, they’re preparing to bury another young man.
Moe was 23 when his life ended, shot at least once in the lower body. People nearby didn’t wait for help, pulling him into a car and rushing him to the hospital. Medical personnel fought for 90 minutes to save his life, but he was pronounced dead just after 2 p.m. at the hospital.
Police gathered evidence from the car used to bring him to the hospital while crews shut down Skuse Street to gather evidence from the house.
Police believe he was shot inside 27 Skuse Street, but the family tells News10NBC they have no idea as to why Moe was there in the first place.
His cousin tells News10NBC Moe lived with his grandma, who is still trying to recover from losing Devin three years ago.
The deadly shooting is the eighth homicide in the city this year, the second within 48 hours on the city’s eastside.
