Thursday, members of Saint Pius X Church in Chili celebrated the completion of the outside structure of their new building. The old church on Chili Avenue burned down two and a half years ago in a devastating fire.
"It was more than just losing a building," says Brian Porter, chairman of the Rebuild Committee. "We all had many connections to the church. Many of us confirmed our children there, first communion, first reconciliation; many of us were married there."
He adds, "As we move forward, we'll see side panels going on. The roof will be going on within a few weeks and then the interior work begins and that's really the beginning of building Jesus' home."
They hope to have the new church open before Christmas.
