Tax changes expected in this week's state budget proposal

In this week's New York state government news, Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo is poised to unveil his state budget proposal, a spending plan that's likely to include calls for big changes to state taxes.

Cuomo plans to release his budget proposal Tuesday. He's said he's considering tax changes to offer relief to taxpayers who will pay more under the new federal tax code, which significantly limits a deduction for state and local taxes.

Cuomo and lawmakers will also have to deal with a projected $4 billion budget deficit.

Meanwhile, relatives of New Yorkers who suffered through terminal illnesses returned to Albany last week to urge passage of a law authorizing people with fatal diseases to seek life-ending medication from a physician.
