We're learning new information Thursday evening on the step-father charged with murder in the death of a 3-year-old boy in Seneca Falls.

Donald Bovio and the child's mother, Alison, are accused of repeatedly hitting the boy -- who they called Peter -- with a belt last weekend and then called 911 when he failed to respond.

Police say the boy died from his injuries.

According to the Massachusetts publication, MassLive, a judge released Donald Bovio from probation early.

He allegedly went on to beat Peter two months later. MassLive says Bovio has a long history of more than 40 offenses, including the domestic assault charged that landed him in jail last.

"We're continuously working with Massachusetts law enforcement to try and track down any leads they have or place context they've had. It's going to be an ongoing investigation for quite some time," stated Chief Stuart Peenstra, Seneca Falls Police Department. "Frustration, sadness, anger. It's all running through all of us."

The Bovios are both facing a 12 count indictment including intentional murder.
