Teens and risky behavior

WHEC-TVSmoking, unsafe sex, drug and alcohol abuse. It's generally thought that teenagers engage in risky behavior because they think they're invincible but a new study suggests otherwise. It says teenagers take risks because they think they will die young.

Twenty thousand teenagers in grade seven through 12 took part in the study by the University of Minnesota. Surprisingly, about 15-percent said they had a 50-50 chance of living to age 35 leading many to drug use and other unsafe behavior.

The study appears in the July issue of Pediatrics.
