Mystery of missing Chili man: two years later
Two years ago Wednesday a Chili teenager disappeared without a trace. Brian Sullivan would be 21-years-old now. His family feels the pain every day, and they want answers.
Wednesday evening family and friends gathered to share memories and hope. The met on Buffalo Road where a billboard stands with the message, "Where's Brian?"
"I think of Brian constantly," Daniel Sullivan said of his son through trembling lips. "Somebody just doesn't disappear."
But it seems Brian Sullivan did. No clues. Not even a trace.
"You wake up, and it's the first thought that comes to your mind," said Barb Sullivan. Days, months and now even years have passed since she's seen her son. But this family's hope holds fast.
"Never lose hope," said Daniel Sullivan. "You lose hope and what else do you have?"
Barb Sullivan added, "It's all we have to hold on to is that he's still out there."
Brian's cousin Katie Towner was one of dozens of family and friends who came out Wednesday for the candlelight vigil.
"We definitely think that something happened that morning of July 8, 2007," said Towner.
Sunday, July 8th at 5:38 a.m., police say Brian stopped at a Burger King on Chili Avenue in Gates. He ordered a breakfast sandwich, cinnamon rolls and milk. Shortly after, he made a cell phone call to a friend at 6:10 a.m. He left a voicemail joking about a rap song he made up.
That's the last anyone has heard from him.
His car, a red Sunfire, was found near the woods at the end of Lettington Avenue in Gates. His wallet was inside. The doors were locked.
"This family needs answers, and Brian deserves justice," said Towner.
And they're not giving up until they bring Brian home.
"Don't forget about my baby brother," said sister Brittney Murphy. "If you know something, say something."
And these parents, broken with pain, say love your kids each and every day.
"You don't know what you got until their gone," said Daniel Sullivan. "(A) piece of my heart's missing."
This remains an active case. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate any and all leads. Anyone with information on the disappearance of Brian Sullivan is asked to call 911. There is a reward.
