An 18-year-old man from Penn Yan was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with a serious head injury following a crash at about 12:40 p.m. today on County Road 4 in the town of Seneca. The driver of 1999 Buick LeSabre, whose name has not yet been released, was heading south on County Road 20 when he appears to have run the stop sign at the intersection with County Road 4 and crashed into the rear of a 1987 freight liner, Ontario County sheriff's deputies said. The car was lodged underneath the tractor trailer in front of the driver's side back tires and dragged over the shoulder and then back onto the road for about 200 yards down County Road 4, before the truck came to a stop in the oncoming lane. The driver of the truck was an employee of Hemdale Farms, in Clifton Springs, but no other information about him was available at the time, deputies said. He was not injured in the crash. Ontario County sheriff's Sgt. David Frasca said the driver of the car told rescue crews that he failed to stop for the stop sign. He had been wearing his seat belt, and the airbags of the vehicle deployed on impact, said Frasca. County Road 4 between County Road 20 and Seneca Castle Road was closed, and deputies said it would likely remain closed until after 3 p.m. today while the crash is investigated and the vehicles removed. Stanley, Hopewell and Seneca Castle fire crews assisted Finger Lakes Ambulance at the scene. State police were also on scene to aid in the accident reconstruction.
