Rochester Police say the victim and the suspect are friends. Jose Correa has been arrested on assault charges. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment this morning. Correa was a security officer at Rochester General Hospital. The hospital tells News 10NBC Correa no longer works there. Click here to read the police report and witness statement. Hot Shots qwner J.B. Shares says he talked to the accused shooter and his friend just before he left. "I just walked by the table said hey to the guys to see what's going on and they were just talking," Shares said. But no sooner did he leave and the shot was fired. "Literally 15 seconds went before the gun went off and (Victor Wilson's) his buddies grabbed him, got him out the door and to the hospital. I mean nobody even knew what happened," Shares said. Rochester police say Correa, a licensed security guard, shot his friend with a Smith and Wesson 40 caliber pistol. According to court papers, another friend saw the victim "pull up his shirt" and saw that "he was shot." That's when the friend, Steve Klee, and Jose Correa put Wilson in their truck and "drove him to Strong." For some reason, Correa left the hospital but got caught in the city a short time later. Today, a group of people came to hot shots for a business party. "Well it's my first time here and I just heard about it," Debbie Paille said. "I think it's crazy." "That's wonderful," Dale Dirk said. "Let's hope there's nothing that goes on like that today." "We feel safe today anyway," Bill Dominikoski said. J.B. Shares isn't sure he's going to do anything differently tonight. "Do you know that people bring handguns into this place?" this reporter asked. "No, you know, the type of clientele that we have is all family oriented," Shares said. "I suspect people probably carry guns all over the place and a situation like this which sounds like a terrible accident, my guess is could happen anywhere." Hot Shots has been open for 18 years. Shares says the police have been called here maybe five times.P olice say the gun Jose Correa had was legal. We learned today that he was a security guard at Rochester General Hospital, but we also found out the hospital fired him today.Victor Wilson is married and has young children.
