Energy assistance program starts Monday

We're not far away from the cold weather, and a program that can save you hundreds of dollars on your utility bills starts tomorrow.

Governor David Paterson has announced that HEAP, or the Home Energy Assistance Program, will start Monday.

It helps the elderly and low-income households save money during the cold months of the year. Last winter, New York issued a record number of benefits to families in the state.

Eligible households can get up to $700 to help pay for heating costs.
