Bus station leaves Midtown Plaza

Some of you may have wondered what's going on near the Amtrak station downtown...and here's the answer. The Greyhound and Trailways bus station has officially moved from Midtown to Cumberland Street but the transition wasn't a smooth one. It created some confusion this morning...

Lawerence Lenning took the bus in from New York City, and says he was expecting to be dropped off at Midtown, not Cumberland Street. He said, “I got somebody picking me up that's late for work and they didn't tell us anything.”

he wasn't the only one confused. Shirley Jones says she almost went to the wrong place too but thankfully, she watched News10NBC this morning. She said, “I'm very lucky. I listened to the news this morning. I was prepared to leave from Midtown and fortunately I heard that you were coming here.”

At five o'clock this morning, the very last bus left from Midtown. After that, the station closed down permanently.

The general manager of Trailways says the closing was bittersweet for him. Jack Barker said, “I was at Midtown in 1963, it opened in 1962 so we were the first tenants in there and we were the last to leave.”

Now the new station for Trailways and Greyhound buses is on Cumberland Street right across from the Amtrak station. And despite today's confusion, Barker says passengers will get the hang of it. “People seem to find their way to the train stations, so I think they can find their way to the bus station.”

In fact, many passengers commented on how much they like the new station.
