Developers and leaders for the Gates-Greece project are pushing for the new theatre to go up at Canal Ponds on Long Pond Road in the two towns. They say the park is perfect because it's a mixed use park with office and retail space. Joseph Fiorie of J. Fiorie & Co. said, “This park is already an established park so the infrastructure is already there. I think once people understand this park and where it is they are going to realize how convenient truly is, not only just to the people in Rochester but to the people coming in from out of town." Greece, Gates, Webster, Farmington, Irondequoit and Brighton are all vying for the new performing arts center. The RBTL says they are committed to holding shows at the Auditorium Theatre but serious renovations are needed and the best way they say to meet the entertainment needs of the community is with a new facility. The suburban locations are now up for grabs after the Renaissance Square project was shot down. For more Rochester, N.Y. news go to our website www.whec.com. |
