Chapter President Ric Hamblin says referees can still work at the games, at their own will. However they will not be covered by the organization’s liability insurance. This decision comes after 54-year-old Peter McCabe, a referee, suffered severe facial injuries on October 24 when a member of the Rochester Cougars used a helmet to bash him in the face. McCabe suffered broken bones in his face and had to undergo reconstructive surgery. Police have charged the 23-year-old Leon Woods with felony assault. Hamblin says other incidents, other than the recent one, also contributed to the organizations decision. There are a total of three semi-pro football teams in Rochester.
