Christmas is six weeks away and already what is turning out to be this year's hot new toy is flying off store shelves. Mendon resident Debbie Johnson thought she would surely get her hands on at least one hamster for her daughter. “I called Walmart, and K-Mart and I've been to Toys ‘R’ Us and one other place. I came here just before work and apparently I missed this one two.” Zhu Zhu Pets Hamsters are furry, interactive toys. They look like real hamsters but they don't eat, poop, die or stink and they cost only just 7.99. Ryan Miltsch is an executive team leader at the Target in Henrietta. He says the store is doing what it can to keep up with the demand but it is tough. “We're seeing an extreme sale of Zhu Zhu Pets. People are calling non-stop about them and they're definitely flying out of here.” It is such a problem, Target has put a limit on the number of toys guests can buy. But Target isn't alone. Like Johnson, News 10NBC checked the Henrietta Wal-Mart and they were all out. The Toys ‘R’ Us in Henrietta was sold out as well. So how can you get your hands on one of these furry little toys? In Buffalo some people waited in line for stores to open. Miltcsh says that may be your best bet. “Maybe if you want to call ahead or be here in advance just so guests do understand they are leaving very quickly.” Or you could adopt Johnson’s attitude. “Every year it's something. It's always something and if it works out great, if not oh well. Gotta be happy with what you get.” They cost 7.99 but the accessories can run you as much as $80 or $90.
