Dairy farm investigation

WHEC-TVFarmers say the glass is half empty, when it comes to milk and now Senator Charles Schumer is looking for answers.

The senator was in Rochester today and says he's launching an investigation to find out why prices being paid to dairy farmers have dropped nearly 50-percent but the price for milk at the store is only down about 15-percent.

Schumer wants to know where that other money is going. “How can the farmers get about half of what they've been getting paid, and the cost of milk not go down on our shelves? There's one answer, the producers in the middle who buy the milk from the farmers and process it and package it, there's no competition."

A federal investigator is scheduled to meet with upstate New York dairy farmers in the next few weeks.
