Glow-stick vigil for premature babies

WHEC-TVThere will be glow-stick vigil Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. for premature babies.

The March of Dimes is commemorating "Prematurity Awareness Day" on the pedestrian bridge at High Falls.

Prematurity is the leading cause of newborn death. In New York State, 12-percent of babies are born before 37 weeks of gestation.

Although the March of Dimes gives New York a "D" because of that high number, it does give the state a gold star for reducing the number of women of child-bearing age who smoke and reducing the percent of uninsured women of child-bearing age.
