Mother accused of trying to smother daughter goes on trial
BATAVIA, N.Y. (AP) - A Buffalo-area woman accused of trying to smother her baby last year is expected to go on trial today.
Prosecutors say 28-year-old Marcia Mitchell of Batavia tried to smother her then 7-month-old daughter in a Buffalo hospital room. Mitchell has rejected a plea deal and opted for a non-jury trial.
