News 10NBC has learned that the person who was trapped in a salt mine in the town of Retsof, west of Geneseo, has been rescued.
A spokesman for American Rock Salt says the worker climbed down into the hopper, holding salt for bagging
He was trying to clear a blockage when he got buried up to his neck in salt. Luckily, he was wearing a safety harness and was able to climb out with some help from other workers.
The man did not need medical attention. A Mercy Flight helicopter that was called to the scene was not needed. The company has not identified the worker.
American Rock Salt is using the land above the old salt mine as a bagging operation for the rock salt. This mine is several miles away from the operating plant off 390 in Mt. Morris.
