A man was stopped at the Greater Rochester International Airport checkpoint Wednesday after a TSA officer detected two hand grenades in the passenger’s checked baggage.

TSA contacted its explosives specialists and officers from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. They responded to the baggage room to investigate the situation. Employees were evacuated from the baggage room as a precaution.

After a closer inspection, TSA’s explosives specialists were able to determine that they were actually replica grenades.

The passenger who was traveling to Atlanta surrendered the replica grenades to TSA and was able to board the flight to Atlanta. Flight travel was not impacted.
