New York's gay pride march is marking the first anniversary of the state's same-sex marriage law.
Sunday's parade follows a lavender line painted down Fifth Avenue from midtown Manhattan to the West Village. Cyndi Lauper is a grand marshal.
Each year since 1970, the parade has had a different theme. This time, it's called "Share the Love." Organizers say they want other states to pass legislation that allows same-sex marriage in six states and the District of Columbia. It became legal in New York on June 24, 2011.
Thousands of participants are expected to walk a route passing the Stonewall Inn, the Village site of the 1969 the riots that started the gay rights movement.
The day will end with a dance by the Hudson River featuring Lauper.
