The Rochester Police Department’s mid-year crime report was released Friday afternoon.

Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard says violent crime is up nearly 5% across the board. There were six more homicides in the first six months of 2012 than there was 2011. He also said robberies are up 18%.

The chief says the department is struggling when it comes to getting people in the community to cooperate and bring perpetrators to justice.

Chief James Sheppard said, “We need the community’s help. We need people to be witnesses, we need people to go on paper, and we need people to testify because I believe in my heart that the more we're able to bring our violent offenders to justice, the fewer incidents we will see in this city.”
