About 700 National Grid customers in northern New York remain without power after a severe thunderstorm knocked down trees and utility lines and damaged several buildings.
The utility reported 16,000 homes and businesses in St. Lawrence and Franklin counties lost power when the storm rolled across the North Country Tuesday afternoon.
Some of the worst damage was reported in the St. Lawrence County village of Potsdam, where the roof on a liquor store collapsed and the roof on a pizza shop was torn off. Several other buildings were damaged. No one was injured.
National Grid reports that about 700 customers in northern New York remain without power Wednesday evening. Most were expected to be online later Wednesday night.
Separate storms in the mid-Hudson Valley on Wednesday knocked out power to about 1,800 customers.
