A Rochester firefighter was injured after he fell through a staircase during an early morning fire.

The Rochester Fire Department responded to a home on Lexington Avenue just after 4 a.m. for the report of a working fire.  Around 4:30 a.m., a second alarm was declared due to the size of the house and the spread of the fire to the upper floors and the roof.

Five occupants were able to safely exit the home without injury. The firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Fire officials say Rochester Police officers were called to the home 45 minutes before the fire broke out for the report of a fight. The fire is considered suspicious and remains under investigation at this time.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to the residents.
