Police try to calm crowds following Puerto Rican Festival

Rochester Police are out in force to try and contain chaotic crowds that have erupted following the conclusion of the Puerto Rican Festival on Sunday. Most of the problems are on the north side of the city especially near the Hudson Avenue and Avenue D area where streets have been gridlocked by crowds, and vehicles.

Police have continued to try to quell the raucous crowds. But they say officers have been attacked and have had bottles and rocks thrown at them. Police say there were 16 arrests during and after the festival on Sunday.

Residents in the area have complained about individuals filling the streets, causing problems, honking horns and hanging out of cars.

Unfortunately, the chaos follows a successful Puerto Rican Festival weekend, where families were safely able to enjoy food and entertainment. In recent years, the out-of-control celebrations have begun to overshadow the actual festival.
