nullA state trooper and two police officers are being credited with preventing a 62-year-old man from jumping off a bridge over the Genesee River.

State police say troopers and city of Rochester police officers responded around 7 p.m. Sunday to reports of a person standing on the railing of the Veterans Memorial Bridge, which carries Route 104 over the river.

Authorities say while Officers Eric Grillo and Jason Lathrop distracted the man, Trooper Patrick Hargather grabbed him and pulled him to the ground.

The man was taken to Rochester General Hospital for evaluation.

Last month, two state troopers prevented a distraught 16-year-old boy from jumping off the Frederick Douglass-Susan B. Anthony Bridge, which carries Interstate 490 over the Genesee River in downtown Rochester.
