Former Crime Lab Dir. plans to sue Monroe Co.

The former Crime Lab Director of Monroe County is preparing to sue the county over her firing. In court paperwork filed, Janet Anderson Seaquist is accusing the County of libel, slander, defamation, and fraud.

Anderson-Seaquist was fired in June after allegations that she acted improperly by returning DNA evidence to law enforcement agencies when the cases became too old to prosecute. In some cases the evidence was then destroyed. Anderson-Seaquist says that she did not instruct agencies to destroy the evidence, and that the agencies were told to return the evidence if it warranted testing.

She also claims that the lab made no determination on the statute of limitations of the cases.

Anderson-Seaquist says that she was fired because District Attorney Sandra Doorley wanted her out of the position and County Executive Maggie Brooks rushed to judgment when she terminated Anderson-Seaquist.

County officials and the District Attorney's office decline to comment. The County has 90 days to respond.
