Iranian state television says gunmen in Syria have seized a bus filled with 48 Iranian pilgrims.
The report says they had just left their hotel in a suburb of Damascus on their way to visit a holy shrine for Shiite Muslims.
The state news agency, in a conflicting report, said the pilgrims were headed to the airport when they were taken, and that the location where they were being held was "known."
It would be the largest single kidnapping of Iranians in Syria, where several smaller groups of Iranians have been snatched in recent months.
The reported abduction came as regime forces pounded a rebel-held neighborhood a few miles away on the southern outskirts of Damascus and heavy explosions shook the capital.
