Speaker Boehner campaigns for Brooks

House Speaker John Boehner attended a fundraiser Saturday for Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks. Brooks is currently campaigning against Congresswoman Louise Slaughter for the 25th District seat.

Boehner spoke at the luncheon event at the Riverside Convention Center Saturday afternoon. The House Speaker says he's known Brooks for a long time and has visited Rochester a number of times. He believes Maggie's work here in Rochester will help her in Washington.

"It's not hard for me to come and to help her in this race because this is a race we can win," said Boehner at the fundraiser. "We look at Maggie's background as a broadcaster, as a business woman, as someone who has done a great job as County Executive here in Monroe County."

The Slaughter campaign reacted negatively to Boehner's visit to Rochester. A spokesperson for the campaign says that Boehner has a reputation of protecting millionaires at the expense of the middle class. The Slaughter campaign also says that Brooks would follow in Boehner's footsteps and would be "an obedient foot soldier for the Republicans' out-of-touch, anti-middle class agenda."
