Will a proposed 45% toll increase for big trucks on the state thruway trickle down to consumers. State Senator Joe Robach says yes.
Senator Robach joined Klein Steel Monday to oppose the toll increase. Klein Steel says it’s just one of many smaller companies that be impact and the called the toll hike outrageous.
But even Governor Cuomo hasn’t been successful in getting the state thruway authority to back off on the proposed 45% toll hike. It would apply to all vehicles with three or more axles. Because most goods move by trucks, Senator Robach says consumers will feel the pinch.
Sen. Joseph Robach, 56th Senate District, said, “This is not just a tax on the trucking industry. This idea in New York State that we have companies’ captive is wrong. Everybody's going to pay it. Other businesses are going to pay it. Consumers are going to pay that."
Wegmans issued a statement on the tolls saying, “We operate the largest private fleets in New York State and one of the largest in the northeast. So, yes, an increase in Thruway tolls would have a major impact on our cost of doing business. Even so, we are absolutely committed to keeping our prices low and will not waiver in that commitment.”
