Woman killed in Route 21 crash was a mother of three and grandmother of two

The roommate of the woman killed in Wednesday’s horrible accidents can’t believe her friend is gone.

The woman killed in Wednesday’s horrible crash in Ontario County was a mother of three, a grandmother of two and a worker at Walmart.

Patsy Garcia was killed when the car she was driving crossed over the center line and hit a pick up truck. The passenger in Garcia’s car was also killed. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office have not released his name.

The crash happened at the bottom of a valley. There are no sharp turns, no blind spots. The sheriff says her car just veered into the wrong lane. 

News10NBC went to Garcia’s home and talked to her roommate, the very first person to know she was killed. 

Hazell Lopez said, “How am I feeling? Devastated. She left the house and four minutes later she was gone.” 

Twenty minutes after that, police were at Hazell Lopez’s door asking her if she knew Patsy Garcia and how to get a hold of her family. They told Hazell that her roommate, Patsy, a friend she called Elena, was dead. 

Lopez said, “Awful, awful. I haven’t known her that long, but Elena was a really good person.” 

The accident is a horrible sight. Garcia’s car was torn apart after it crossed the center line and hit a pick up truck carrying a trailer of livestock. 

Garcia had two daughters and two granddaughters. One of them, Anna, was going to be baptized this weekend. Garcia’s son celebrated his birthday earlier this week. Garcia’s two dogs were in her car for the accident. One of them was killed. The other is in an animal hospital in Henrietta. 

Lopez said, “I couldn't believe she was gone. She just walked out the door. ‘Bye, I'll see u later.’ And I said, ‘Ok, drive careful.’ And she didn't come back. 

The section of Route 21 where the accident happened was closed Thursday morning while police reconstructed the accident. It’s back open now.
