Senator Schumer secures airport permit

Senator Charles Schumer announced Thursday that the final obstacle for the Canandaigua airport runway expansion project has been cleared.

Schumer says he has successfully petitioned the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to issue a Wetlands Mitigation permit for the runway to be expanded.

Without this permit, construction couldn't have been started in one section of the airport field, leading to delays, which eventually could increase the budget for the project.

Officials say this project could boost economic growth in the area by $12-million a year.
