East Rochester finally has a new judge. The decision was made by the town's board of trustees after two candidates finished in a tie on Election Day.
The board voted 4-1 to elect longtime East Rochester Police officer and former mayor David Bonacchi, the Republican candidate.
Bonacchi and Democrat Dennis Greco, who is East Rochester's highly successful football coach shook hands after Tuesday's decision.
When the votes were counted and are counted, each had 1,274, leaving the final decision to the board.
Dave Bonnachi said, "This was something I've always wanted to do, the opportunity was there, a whole lot of people supported me, wanted me to do it and I'm very glad that I did."
Dennis Greco said, "I think its political to some degree. You have four Republicans and one Democrat and I'm a Democrat. I'm sure they supported Dave in the campaign and I'm quite sure it would be hard to do that and change directions now."
Bonacchi replaces newly elected State Supreme Court Justice Scott Odorisi. He'll have to run again next year.
