Lower taxes for residents in the West Brighton Fire District. The town board has voted to reduce the amount of revenue for the district from taxpayers by $200,000.
Instead the town will use money already socked away in the district's fund balance. The change reduces the fire district tax rate by 21%.
West Brighton and the town are in mediation over a decision in August to contract with the city of Rochester for fire protection in the area.
Brighton Town Supervisor William Moehle said, “It's already a significant savings on a 100,000 home. But at this point, we don't know how the mediation is going to proceed, we need to have enough there to make sure the transition will go effectively.”
Moehle says the tax savings will be just under $50 a year on the average $100,000 home in the West Brighton Fire District.
