The commission authorized by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to investigate utility companies and how they dealt with Superstorm Sandy has held its first public hearing.
The Moreland Commission met Thursday night in New York City and heard from a handful of speakers on subjects including restructuring the utility companies.
Cuomo ordered the investigation into how utility companies prepared for and reacted to Sandy. He criticized the pace of efforts to restore power from Long Island to the Hudson Valley.
Sandy knocked out power to more than 2 million customers. Some were in the dark for over two weeks.
The commission has already asked for key documents from transit authorities and issued subpoenas to utility companies.
Another meeting is scheduled for Tuesday on Long Island.
