Seneca County man accused of murdering his son appears in court Monday

The man accused of killing his son in Seneca County back in 2008, appeared in Seneca County Court Monday.

Karl Karlsen is charged with second-degree murder and insurance fraud in the death of his 23-year-old son, Levi.

On Monday in court, Karlsen did not have an attorney, so he applied for a public defender. He is scheduled to be back in court next Monday. 

According to investigators, Karlsen took out a life insurance police on his son days before his death. Sheriff's deputies say a truck fell on Levi while he was working on the family's farm. It was originally called an accident, but last month, Karlsen was arrested after the the sheriff said he received new information about the case.
