Rochester Fire Department to use new tool to identify dangers in vacant structures

First responders will soon have a new tool to help them identify dangers in vacant or unsafe structures in the city of Rochester.
The Rochester Fire Department says it will begin using a new placard system Wednesday.
Boards will be placed on buildings which have issues that could be a danger to responders. For example, missing or damaged structural supports, holes in the floor or missing or compromised stairways.
The fire department says a third of Rochester's vacant buildings meet the criteria for "high hazard".
