Fatal car crash leaves one dead, one in critical condition

An Elmira man was killed and a woman from Bath is in critical condition Sunday night after their car crashed into a tree.

The crash happened in the town of Ashland in Chemung County.

Sheriff's deputies tell News10NBC Hillary Sullivan, 22, was driving on State Route 427 when she went off the road and hit a tree.

Both Sullivan and her passenger Brett Casselberry, 33, of Elmira, had to be extricated.

They were taken to the hospital where Casselberry died.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
