Are you being told to be a "health care consumer" but can't figure out what anything medical costs?

More and more people in our area are on high-deductible health savings accounts (HSA) or flexible spending accounts (FSA). And the message is that it's great news! You get to be an educated health care consumer!
But have you ever tried to figure out what a simple procedure costs?
How much is a doctor's visit?
How much to remove a mole?
How much does an MRI cost?
The fact is it is virtually impossible to figure out the prices of anything medical. Quite often you won't know the price until after you get billed. That's like going to Wegmans to buy milk and there's no price at the refrigerator and then when you go to the check out, the cashier can't tell you the price until you've already handed over your cash.
Doesn't make sense, does it?
If you're frustrated by this and have tried to find out what a medical procedure was going to cost, we want to hear from you.
