RTS installing new fareboxes on buses

There will be new fareboxes on RTS buses. Starting this month, RTS will be installing new fareboxes which gives customers more ways to pay the $1 fare and the ability to buy all-day unlimited passes on board.
The new fareboxes allow customers to pay with change as well as $1, $5, $10, or $20 bills and receive change in the form of a "Stored Value Pass" to use for future rides.
At a cost of $4.3 million, this is the first major update to RTS' farebox technology in over 20 years. The new fareboxes are expected to be on all 260 RTS buses by mid-February. The cost is funded by Federal grant funds, NYS Department of Transportation funds, and by RGRTA.
