Using alcohol to help you sleep may have the opposite effect.

A new study out of the London Sleep Center finds alcohol leads to a deeper sleep at first, but causes disrupted sleep later in the night. It is also associated with snoring and poor breathing, which can take a toll on your health and your partner's ability to sleep.

The researchers combined data from several studies to get this result.
