Two children were taken to the hospital after their bus was rear ended by a car on Route 39 near the intersection of Littleville Road in the town of Avon.

The crash happened just after 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Livingston County Sheriff's Deputies say the Avon Central School District bus was preparing to stop in front of a home when it was rear ended by a car, driven by 33-year-old Joseph Szwaczkowski, of Perry.

There were 7 students on board. Two of the students, a 12-year-old and a 9-year-old were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for head and neck pain. The bus driver was also taken to Strong Hospital for a neck injury.

Szwaczkowski, who was not hurt, was issued a ticket for following too closely. He will appear in the Town of Avon Court at a later date. Sheriff's Deputies say driver distraction, following too closely and sun glare were all contributing factors in the crash.
