Study: Lumpectomy with radiation good for early breast cancer

A new study suggests a lumpectomy may be even better than removing the whole breast when it comes to fighting breast cancer treatment options.
The latest Breast Cancer study is from Duke University. The study is suggesting that a less invasive approach is better for early stage breast cancer. Researchers studied more than 110,000 women with early stage breast cancer. 55% had lumpectomy plus radiation and 45% had a mastectomy without radiation. Researchers say women who had lumpectomy plus radiation had higher survival rates. Doctors caution they aren't clear exactly what underlying factors may have influenced these results.
Dr. Lori Medeiros from Rochester General Hospital talked with Lia Lando about the study on Roc City Tonight Thursday. To see the interview, click play on the video player.
