Exposure to sunlight may reduce the risk of rheumatoid arthritis in women.
Researchers tracked the health and lifetime UV exposure of middle aged women over a 30-year period. Those with the highest exposure to UVB rays were 21-percent less likely to be diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis than women with the least.
There was no such association when researchers analyzed a younger, more sun-savvy generation of women, suggesting sunscreen may block the positive effects of ultraviolet rays on rheumatoid arthritis.
