Deputies: Murder suspect arrested for promoting prison contraband

A 20-year-old man, charged in connection with a robbery and murder outside a Gates shoe store in September 2012, and a 19-year-old Rochester woman have been arrested for promoting prison contraband.
Sheriff’s Deputies say during a routine visit in a secured area of the Monroe County Jail, Kiara Bates passed contraband to William Wilkins, an inmate at the jail. According to deputies, they immediately searched Wilkins and found marijuana and three bars of soap and five batteries tied together to a form a weapon.
Wilkins was charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband – a felony. Bates is charged with the same crime and was remanded to the Monroe County Jail where she is currently being held on $5,000 cash bail.
Wilkins is in jail charged with murder, robbery and attempted robbery in the death of 19-year-old Montre Bradley. Bradley was waiting in line to purchase a new pair of shoes when he was killed during a robbery attempt. Two others are also facing charges in connection with Bradley’s death.
